Biography

Kiley Trott, MD, is a pediatric otolaryngologist and a skilled surgeon, who treats children with the full range of ear, nose, and throat issues, ranging from simple ear infections to such complex problems as hearing loss, vascular anomalies, and masses in the head and neck.

Dr. Trott says otolaryngology is a rewarding specialty because it allows him to help so many patients, and treatment can be life-changing for them. “If they are having difficulty breathing, I can perform a simple tonsillectomy, and then they're breathing and getting better sleep at night. If a child has recurrent ear infections, one thing we can do is place a little plastic tube in the ear and allow the fluid to drain out. That can improve hearing and even benefit a very young child from a speech and language development standpoint,” he says.

The field is always changing with new technologies that are making treatments even more successful, Dr. Trott says. An example is cochlear implants that are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compatible—previously, MRIs weren’t as safe for profoundly deaf patients who depended on the small, surgically implanted electronic devices for sound.

Dr. Trott says the most rewarding part of his day is interacting with patients and families. “They’re just so fun and energetic to work with in the clinic,” he says. “Our clinics are very fast-paced, so you’re always bouncing from room to room, and you get to have all these great interactions.”

Dr. Trott is an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine.
