Definition

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys, which can lead to kidney enlargement and reduced kidney function. Over time, PKD may cause kidney failure, requiring dialysis or kidney transplantation for treatment.
